What is a Dating Scan?
A Dating Scan is an important ultrasound performed early in pregnancy, typically between 6 to 12 weeks. It’s one of the first steps in your pregnancy journey and helps provide crucial information about how your pregnancy is progressing.
Why is it important?
The Dating Scan allows us to:

• Confirm the Pregnancy’s Location: This helps ensure that the pregnancy is located in the uterus and not in other areas, such as the fallopian tubes (ectopic pregnancy).

• Check Viability: We’ll look for signs of a healthy pregnancy, including the presence of a heartbeat, which is an early indicator that the pregnancy is progressing well.

• Identify the Type of Pregnancy: The scan will confirm if you’re carrying a single baby or if it’s a multiple pregnancy (e.g., twins).

• Establish the Gestational Age: By measuring the size of the baby, we can accurately determine how far along you are in your pregnancy and give you an estimated due date.
